Well.

Vacation is almost over and I have done essentially nothing useful. It was kind of nice.

Skulked around the house Monday. I had an invite to go to the Marathon with Steven and his kids, but crowds and I aren't such good buddies. Ultimately, it was kind of chilly too, so I passed. The jackhammer fairy visited us that night, too. I assume there was a gas leak and it better have been worth it because they kept me up until 2am. Not Awesome. Originally, I was supposed to do UMass shit Tuesday, but after a lot of crankies, tireds, and a frakking jumper on the train we were on, I said the hell with it and came home to nap.

Dear UMass, I hate you lots. Please die. As of right now, I still have two IFs instead of the Ws they're supposed to be. I suppose it shall be back to ringing them.

Yesterday was great. It was warm and sunny and made of win. [profile] jesheckahlynn sent me tea, which arrived right before I headed into the city for the day. I hit all the trains perfectly. The ride was nice, my iPod was spitting out good music, and it wasn't crowded. And if I didn't mention it enough before, the weather was GORGEOUS. It had to be in the mid-80s.

I caught the last 20 minutes of Steven's classes and then we headed down to the Common and the Public Gardens so I could take pictures. As it turned out, the line for the Swan Boats wasn't bad (nor is the cost!), so we wasted a few minutes in line and took a ride. They're pretty fun, especially for the price. I also got a few nice pictures from the boats.

Because it was a game night, we opted to loiter round the city for a bit so we could avoid the influx. We ended up having dinner at Chacarero's, which we haven't been to in ages, probably since before Filene's Basement closed. It was great, as always. We still had time to kill after, so we caught up with Sam at the Green Dragon for beer and really good calmari. It was, in fact, some of the best I've had.

Today, I kicked it around here. I took almost 200 photos yesterday and dumped them today. I didn't get as much done with them as I wanted because, for some reason, iPhoto and Photoshop aren't friends this week and I can't drag and drop. I have to manually open them and the library is also being hinky, so I need to actually copy them to the desktop before I can edit them. Joy. It looks like there are some beautiful ones, though, so I'm happy. I'm going to try and post some tomorrow.

Since I walked over 2 miles yesterday, I figured I'd go out for a walk today, since it was also nice. It was a quick mile and I've walked it before, no issues. My achilles tendons did not like it at all today. I felt like I had spikes jammed up my legs. I don't know what was wrong, since I've walked it in crappier shoes before. I grabbed a coffee to ease my suffering, then came home and made with the yoga. My knee isn't exactly thanking me, but at least I haven't fallen off the exercise bandwagon this week.

Mum's first anniversary was today, so I have to get their card to them soon. Less drama about that this year.

Tomorrow is Battlestar night and Saturday, we're going to go to Grandpa's and seed his lawn/play with kittehs. I need to do laundry soon and I also need to buy shorts/capris because nothing I have either fits or it's old and I don't like how it fits. I don't know if I feel like doing that this week-end.

New icon, at least.

Ssssnow

We're up to about 8 inches of snow here. Let me show you how much I love snow.

...

That was it. It's been snowing since literally 7am. It looked like it had stopped around 7:30, so Steven and I headed out to Mum's to exchange bananas for a new(ish) computer. We hung out for a little bit and when we went to leave, it was snowing in earnest again. Great. We crawled at about 20mph to Derbyville because I needed potatoes and all purpose flour. That turned into a bottle of greek wine, aforementioned items, and some marshmellos for a treat.

I'm not sure if it's the specific brand of marshmello or all handmade ones, but these were almost too sweet for me. I am, however, thinking of making some myself and seeing if they turn out any better. The wine is good, at least.

New computer (my grandfather's old laptop) is a G4 with a higher processor, so I'm hoping that I can do more work on here. Bruce installed CS3 on here, so I'm looking forward to trying that out tomorrow. I've got almost everything set up on here and I'm transferring my music over now. Seriously, can I tell you how much I love Macs? They're synced up and this is so much easier than switching PCs. Oh, and Firefox works on here. Woot.

Of course, I still haven't gotten anything done here. Canvasses are still blank, charcoal is not finished, and there's still a set of photos not finished. Maybe tomorrow.

On the other hand, I've eaten better this week and my stomach is moderately less pissy with me.

Soy Cheese

It disturbs me a great deal that soy cheese singles actually taste slightly better than Kraft singles. There is something fundamentally wrong with that...

That said, lunch was good. In my brief kick of eating somewhat healthier and partly because I really like soy products, I bought Nayonaise yesterday, along with aforementioned soy cheese, with the express intent of making tuna melts. I kind of fail because I used real tuna, but fish is the whole reason I would never be able to be a vegetarian. I love the cow, but I could live without it.

Anyhow, so it was actually fairly tasty. Nayonaise tastes better than I remember it tasting a good decade ago and it's still better than Miracle Whip. Christ, I hate that shit. Plus, it didn't make me feel queasy like regular mayo normally does. My stomach, apparently, has decided that it will no longer handle greasy/oily/fatty foods and, since I am actually listening to it for once, perhaps I will actually lose some weight instead of just being sick all the time.

I still totally lack motivation today. I cleaned up the hard drive on the PC yesterday and I'm going to try and do the same here today. New(ish) computer is coming on Friday, so maybe I'll be able to get more work done faster for once. Still haven't started my painting, mostly because I figure if I'm really unmotivated, I shouldn't screw around. I also still need to clean my paint tray.

I dumped the photos of Kitteh and the beach yesterday, so I'll be posting those later on my my DeviantArt later today. Still working on the website and toying with new things for the gallery aspect, so hopefully I'll get that done this week.

I wish I weren't do cranky.

O hai.

Why am I so easily sucked into watching crappy movies. I just can't resist them. I'm watching Never Been Kissed now and it's cringe-worthy. Worse is that it's set the year I graduated. I remember when it came out and I think I remember why I never bothered to see it. But no, it's on TBS now, and I have to watch it. I'm all about the inappropriate teacher/journalist cum high schooler. Oh my god, it is painful and so wrong.

I will say that at least, my junior and senior years were pretty good, so I didn't get to experience teenage hell. Middle school, on the other hand...

I think I used up all my productiveness yesterday. I went out with Laura in the afternoon for chinesey goodness (glorious) and then later to Friendly's for ice cream with Beth and Rich (not so glorious, since Friendly's wants my death). I kind of still want to go to IKEA too, but it closes surprisingly early.

I think Steven and I are going to the cheapie theatre to see Atonement today because I obviously need to stare at pretty costumes for several hours. Also: at $4 a ticket, I can justify just about any move.

I really need to replace my Hole CDs. Or at least redownload them or something since my CD-ROM shit the bed. I can't wait till I get get my MacBook of doom.

High School Art Stuff )

Well, whenever this movie ends, I'm going to go shower and hope that I have enough hot water, unlike the last few days. Also, it would be nice if I started assembling pieces for my portfolio.

We spent pretty much the whole day with Mum and Bruce. We decided a couple weeks ago to go see Edward Hopper at the MFA. Mum gets, I think, free tickets since she's a member. This was one of the few special exhibits that I absolutely wanted to go see, since he's one of my favourite artists.

It was absolutely, 100% worth it, even with the aggravation of wading through 9 million stupid people on head phone. His paintings, especially his lighthouses, are absolutely stunning, as are his women. The collection they had was enormous, as well, though it looks like a lot of it is actually the MFA's and Harvard's, which is a good oppurtunity for me to go and see most of it again.

Mum bought us two prints as anniversary gifts, one of a few men windsurfing on this gorgeous blue water and another of a cyclist. The colours of the seascape are unbelievable. I'm planning on putting it in the office. So awesome.

We went to Chinatown after for dinner at Chau Chow's and then stopped at the coffee shop just round the corner from it for dessert. Bruce and I split a sweet melon cake and I have a red bean cake for later. Mum got a coconut cake, Bruce got another red bean cake, and Steven had to be weird and get pork buns. Then we stopped in a store who had teeny turtles the size of a silver dollar. I wanted one, but alas, Steven said no. No teeny turtle for Samantha.

I'm actually going to be back in the city tomorrow with Dawn and Mike before there game. I'll be heading back to Lush to get some more face scrub and/or wash. I'm thinking about trying a Big Blue and Steven wants a Honeybee, as well.

In conclusion, Edward Hopper = teh awesome, no teeny turtle for Samantha, and lots of Boston.

Here's a novel real update!

I've been working fairly steadily the last couple weeks, so this is a good thing. It's also allowed me to get a good chunk of [livejournal.com profile] princessbunny's blanket done. Getting up at 6am every day, however, is not so good, especially when I'm still recovering from bronchitis. I've pretty much been sleeping whenever I haven't been at work, so that's part of the reason for no updates. I actually am kind of considering napping now, but I'm doing about 47 other things, so I probably won't get a chance to.

Dawn and Mike came down this week-end on Sunday. She wasn't sure she was going to be able to come because she's had a couple bouts of preterm labour, one of which had her spending the day in the hospital. She felt ok, though, and Steven, Nicki, and I met them in the city at Faniuel Hall. We walked around a little and ended up going to Cheers for booze and food. I actually was surprised how reasonable the prices were, considering it's a huge tourist trap. We walked them down to the Garden for their Celtics game before heading to the North End for pastry. And, of course, once we were there, we were seduced by the lure of good coffee at Cafe Graffiti. Nicki'd never been, so that was even more of a reason to stop in. We hit Modern on the way to South Station, but I'm thinking we should have gone to Mike's instead. They didn't have the florentines that Steven likes and my tiramisu was only so-so. We have a box of cookies no one's looked at either. Lesson learned.

I finally finished all the pro wedding photos we have Monday, so now I'm working on the two CDs of candids. They won't get done for a bit, though, since right now I'm helping out with the Arts Festival. I volunteered a couple hours today gluing down little kid artwork and so far, it looks like I'll be doing the same tomorrow. Hopefully, though, it won't be snowing tomorrow. Stupid New England weather.

I just looked outside. It's actually accumulating. Dammit.

So now, I kind of have a headache, I have too much stuff to do over the next three days, and I'm tired to boot. The only really good thing is that I've gotten quite a bit done on my painting today. Steven still hasn't moved his shit off the table, so I hadn't been able to work on it. I finally got sick of waiting and shoved a few things around so I could put the painting on top of things. So far, so good.

I think, in fact, I'm going to go do a little more work on it before he gets home.

Apparently, they all hang out at the mall.

We celebrated a month of marriedness by going out to dinner with [livejournal.com profile] pinkandsilver, who desperately needed to be introduced to the glory of Eo Noodle. I am happy to report that we have a literal tonne of leftovers, which means I never have to cook this week-end. Eo was mostly delicious, but it was missing the giant green leafy things that they usually have. It made me a little sad, but not too much, since my cheng du noodles were really spicy tonight. So tasty.

Since we were down there, we figured we might as well hit the Natick!Mall. We checked out their dollar bin and I found a very pretty icy blue eye shadow, a nail polish, a rosy lippie, and some electric yellow lippie that goes on coral and looks awesome on. They didn't have my vanilla spice body wash, which I might sell an organ for at this point, but I did get a jar of the body butter. Then, I promptly died of happiness since it was only $10.50. Nicki bought a mango gift set for like $4 more than what the body butter itself cost.

We made total asses of ourselves in the Discovery Store. I can't even remember what we started laughing about, but we had to leave because we were hysterical. Damn uteri and all.

My husband wins the awesome award because he actually went into the Coach store, alone, trying to track down the bag I had squee'ed over once for 35 seconds two months ago. We petted pretty dresses in Jessica McClintock. We went to the promised land after that so Nicki could get a tank and a homewrecking skirt and a really cute tee. I bought a purple shirt that says Love is a Battlefield. The mall closed and we missed out on Sephora, making us both sad badgers. It's ok, because there's still one in the city.

I gave Nicki a couple of things from my closet when we got back here, including a really cute dress from H&M that isn't going to even fit my boobs again. Steven cheerfully waved goodbye to the excess clothing. I found a couple things that I hadn't seen in weeks, so I was happy too, even if it isn't quite skirt weather.

Since, uh, it's 2* outside. Stupid New England.

I'm still broken up with Battlestar, but I'll be crawling back to it on Sunday. There was a moment of hope that Nicki may be able to get out in time to see it, so we can both break up with it again around 11pm unless it's really good, in which case, we can stay together.

It's going to be a whole 30* tomorrow, so I think I'm going to wear my pretty, filmy white sweater and the dark jeans that make me all squee because they're a size smaller than everything else I currently have (read: they fit.) To my knowledge, we're stealing Nicki for the day and doing stuff since stuff is good and she needs to get things from the UMass.

Starting my painting Monday, as well as kicking my ass into gear with the belly dancing. I kind of also want to frame up Eva II and put her on our walls. If I remember, I'll take a picture of a couple of the pieces I have left in my portfolio.

Soon!

Anyone who knows me knows that I am frugal, often to a fault. This isn't so much because I hate spending money, but often because I have no money to spend. As in EVER. I haven't worked since September, when I was sacked from Barnes & Noble. I decided to work on going to school instead, which was fine. Then came the knee incident and you have me out of work (and probably school, thanks to my  idiot advisor) until April.

But I digress... I predominantly use my laptop, as it's more comfortable to sit on our couch, as well as I can put my leg up easier. Unfortunately, though, I have only basic programmes on here-- no graphics editors. Both Photoshop and PSP are on the bedroom computer, which is in stasis right now, and Steven's computer. (Yes, we have three computers. We're not total geeks. The laptop was a school requirement, the bedroom computer was mine, and Steven's is a hand me down.)

This has kept me from working much on the new layout for the massive DevilGrrl update I want to do. I have Photoshop and PSP back ups on CD somewhere, but I can't find them in the jumble of crap in our room. Hence, things are going nowhere.

So tonight, I was lurking around [livejournal.com profile] nakedgirlparts  and I noticed a lot of people talking about something called GIMP. Evidently, it was a GNU graphics programme, which I believe is related to or in cahoots with Mozilla, whose Firefox/Thunderbird programmes I use. I figured I could always delete it if I didn't like it.

Well, I'm glad I did! It's a little different than Photoshop, but very close. I just started playing around with it tonight, but it's great, especially since it's FREE! If you're short a graphics editor or just plain broke, you should totally check it out.

Bleh, I didn't mean for this to be so rambly, but my painkiller has kicked in. In fact, I think I am off to bed now so I can be dry oiled before I go to sleep.
