It's finally come to pass. I've sold my soul to the dark side. I've bought a Mac. I found a good deal on eBay and figured cheap was a good way to dip my toes into the non-PC world. I spent some time chatting with Bruce about the specific computers we bought and he seemed very positive about what we have. I'm even thinking about getting a cheap iMac to toy around with.

Vista was what finally scared me off. I was looking at what I'd need to do if I wanted to upgrade to it and I'd have to dump a fair amount of money into the new laptop plus the cost of software. That's not even considering if we could upgrade the other laptop or the two towers I have. There's a good chance I wouldn't be able to upgrade them, since I think the Compaq tower is maxed out. I could probably buy a brand new MacBook for the cost of upgrading all our PCs. I can install Leopard, when it comes out, with no issue. The lack of viruses also is a huge plus in my book.

Plus Photoshop! How can I go wrong with something that's basically built to run Photoshop. I can also yoink software from Mum and Bruce now and they have awesome stuff.

Bleh. Other than that, nothing good is going on. I have a killer headache, probably from not eating a real lunch. I finally broke out the popcorn maker yesterday, so I made popcorn for lunch. I should probably find some Tylenol or have something with a little caffeine in it. Ugh, and I need to quit looking at iMac desktops. I don't need to spend even more money.

Today has been shit since pretty much the since the morning. I'm going to make a second post about the good points, but I damn well want to vent first.

We slept off the bacon flavoured haze and got up rather early. Steven's parents called three times before 9:30, but that was a fairly minor irritance. We chilled out, watched the special on wine on the History Channel. After that, we watched Pirates of the Caribbean. When that was over, I decided I'd take a shower. Well, that's where things started going downhill. After my shower, I sat down on the side of the tub to shave my legs. I finished one and went to start the other when the foot I had placed against the tile suddenly went right through it. I knocked out 4 tiles and a huge chunk of sodden sheetrock that I could crumble in my hands. I also managed to slice up my foot pretty well. I took an assload of pictures, in case I need to prove anything. I'll post those when my computer is less fucked up.

After that, I came out to find that my computer had fried itself. It had shut down and I could do nothing with it. Finally, I had to reformat C:\ and reinstall everything on my computer. I lost so many damn files, it's disgusting. I sat and cried for like 20 minutes. However, three Atavan later, I'm finally feeling less would up.

So, not sure what's going on, but please email me your name and email address, since mine's decimated.

Post 2 is going to be friends only. Comment if you want to be added.

I just downloaded the best skin ever for Firefox. It's called PimpZilla and there is a screenshot under the cut.

Click for Leopard Print )

Is that not the best browser ever!?

Oh, and I found the best shoes ever on Delia*s. They're called Contre slipons and they're by Puma. That for me for future reference, since I desperately need a pair. I just don't have $70 for them. Maybe I can convince my mother that they'd be great for when I get a full time job over the summer.

And that reminds me further that I need a new bathing suit, since I'm busting out all over from tankini top. It's only a cup and a half too small for me. Bah.

Steven's bringing me home Thai food since I've been whining about how much I need pad thai for about a month now. He's craving Taiwanese, so that'll be our next trip, when we out in Metro West, since I assume by Taiwanese food, he means EO Noodle in Framingham.

I don't know why we pay Verizon for DSL if it's going to be down every night for like an hour or two. I know this seems really pissy and petty, but consider this with the fact that when Steven and I moved, our DSL was out for three months. We were charged for it and evidently it was active at our old apartment the whole damn time. After a lot of bitching, threatening to cancel every account I had (we have the Freedom package, 4 cell phone lines, DSL, and a couple other random things. We're good customers.), we finally got a huge credit and, I think, 6 months for free service.

I am also on my fourth router from them because three others have blown. And blown, I mean blown with smoke, burning wires, sizzling, et cetera. I am not impressed.

So with that in mind, I want my DSL up 24/7 , unless they're going to email me about outages, which they have not. I mean, I download my email 60 billion times a day. I'm sick, I'm on crutches, I don't go out a lot because it's really difficult and I hurt a lot of the time. I wouldn't have missed the email.

And it's not like I couldn't find something to do if I knew about an outage. I have a scarf I'm knitting. I have a couple other random things to work on. But if I don't know about it, I'm going to sit around and try to reconnect and get crankier and crankier.

I'm going to call and bitch a lot on Tuesday. I don't want to pay for internet I can't use.

Soon!

Anyone who knows me knows that I am frugal, often to a fault. This isn't so much because I hate spending money, but often because I have no money to spend. As in EVER. I haven't worked since September, when I was sacked from Barnes & Noble. I decided to work on going to school instead, which was fine. Then came the knee incident and you have me out of work (and probably school, thanks to my  idiot advisor) until April.

But I digress... I predominantly use my laptop, as it's more comfortable to sit on our couch, as well as I can put my leg up easier. Unfortunately, though, I have only basic programmes on here-- no graphics editors. Both Photoshop and PSP are on the bedroom computer, which is in stasis right now, and Steven's computer. (Yes, we have three computers. We're not total geeks. The laptop was a school requirement, the bedroom computer was mine, and Steven's is a hand me down.)

This has kept me from working much on the new layout for the massive DevilGrrl update I want to do. I have Photoshop and PSP back ups on CD somewhere, but I can't find them in the jumble of crap in our room. Hence, things are going nowhere.

So tonight, I was lurking around [livejournal.com profile] nakedgirlparts  and I noticed a lot of people talking about something called GIMP. Evidently, it was a GNU graphics programme, which I believe is related to or in cahoots with Mozilla, whose Firefox/Thunderbird programmes I use. I figured I could always delete it if I didn't like it.

Well, I'm glad I did! It's a little different than Photoshop, but very close. I just started playing around with it tonight, but it's great, especially since it's FREE! If you're short a graphics editor or just plain broke, you should totally check it out.

Bleh, I didn't mean for this to be so rambly, but my painkiller has kicked in. In fact, I think I am off to bed now so I can be dry oiled before I go to sleep.

Yay!

It came today. I'm sitting in front of it now, listening to A-Ha, installing Firefox, and generally aching from the damned rain. It's been a wicked crappy outside. The wind has been whipping around like mad and it feels like the tropics out there. I got caught in another downpour at school today while trying to locate stuff. I hate the beginning of school. My hour and a half class let out after 15 minutes, adding to the hour and a half between classes I already had. Meh.

I am cranky for someone with a new toy, aren't I? I have one of those headaches and it's making me super bitchy. I hate being female sometimes. Aren't birth control pills supposed to make PMS go away?

I suppose I could take this into the bedroom. Technically, my 12-whatever battery is charged. Goddamn, my head hurts though...

I finished setting up the wireless network today. All that's left in here is getting Steven's computer set up in the bedroom and we'll be a totally wired household. Too exciting. I haven't installed my printer stuff on here yet, nor have I created a network for the house either. I think Leigh is going to help me with that on Friday. My networking tolerance is gone for the week. The wireless was a bitch beyond words to set up.

Oh, and when I have money, I can indeed get an iDuck for the computer. God wants everyone to have an iDuck. It would create world peace. Or not. It might just make a lot of people giddy with delight... Or maybe just Laura and me. Steven thinks I'm a little nuts for wanting one. Maybe it was the squealing?

Meh. I just realised I need to still set up Thunderbird on here. So close to being done, yet so far before bed...

Just ordered my required laptop for school. I'm now $650 poorer than I was before, but my laptop can do everything but write papers for me. I should be getting it about a week and a half after classes start. Despite my general unease with laptops, I think I'll be using it a lot. Well, a lot after I set up my programmes. I swear, I never want to user Internet Exploder again. I'm in love with FireFox.

I'm also drunk and late for bed. I have to work from 9-2 tomorrow and I'm already upset about how the "managers" are running stuff. I hate the job right now, but I have faith it will get better. Plus, I want to get in on the health insurance for us next year, just in case Steven has any more bad luck with jobs.

Classes start a week from today and I'm going to order some of my books from Barnes and Noble. It's a lot cheaper because of my discount. Classes are Writing II, German I, Geology & Lab, and, of all things, Asian Theatre. I have awesome Fridays: one class, until noon. I damned well better like it for having had to stand in line for 3½ hours to get a schedule. Better yet, I'm a freshman this year; next year, I will be a junior. Tell me that makes sense.

Ok, more later. I must get some sleep since I have to get up damned early tomorrow. Vacation starts at 2pm!
