Advice, please

Okay, flist, I know some of you must've worn false lashes at some point. I have a pair and I'm going to try them.

Please to give me advice and pointers.

(Also, please recommend me red lipsticks. I need to get one.)

We're going to a fancy wedding in two weeks, hence the lashes and red lipstick.

Put the glue on a toothpick, and use the toothpick to apply the glue on your lash line. You can also use the toothpick to kinda push the lashes into place. I think I read that in seventeen when I was a youngun', but it's always worked for me.

Tiny thin line of glue and I use a cuticle stick to stick them down. Also most people say to do your make up first but I find it goes much better if I do them first then eye make-up over them. Plus then if you end up with stray glue you need to clean up, you're not messing up your make up.

I would've assumed to do make-up after. Doing it before seems like asking to have to take it ALL off and redo it. I think I'm going to try this Friday before we go out for Steven's birthday.

How red do you want?
MAC has some good ones in different tones and textures (i.e. more matte or more glossy)...

Pin-up red is good. I'm leaning more towards glossy because my lips are insanely dry right now. My lower lip actually split today and I've been using gloss and chapstick constantly.

ETA: How is MAC's Fluidline? I am apparently incapable of using their LiquiLast without making a giant mess and having to remove all my make-up and start over. I can, however, apply eyeshadow with an angle brush.

I would suggest a MAC red shade but it's probably best if you go try some on since different shades look totally different on different people. Example, everyone loves MAC Red but it's way too orange on me. My fav MAC reds are Redwood and Hot Tahiti, but they're tamer reds. The vibrant ones are too much for my skin tone. MAC has a lipglass/lustreglass/whatever called Venetian that is a really pretty sheer red. If you want a kick-ass va-va-voom red gloss, definitely go with the Lip Laquer in Fanplastico (it's a candy-apple red, almost metallicy).

I love the Fluidlines!! I don't like using the angle brush so I have a (non-MAC) tiny liner brush instead. But they go on nicely and are waterproof. I have trouble with the Liquilast liners too, the brush that comes with it sucks! The Fluidlines are way easy to work with. Just keep the lid on tight or they'll dry out (and if they happen to dry out, a drop of Visine will make them usable again!).

It sucks because when I went blonde after being red for so long, a lot of my make-up no longer worked, including a lot of my red lipstick. My staple (a Lip Gunk) was discontinued a while ago, which makes me so sad.

Something cool I thought you might be interested in considering our talk of red lips... this morning after work I picked up one of those Cover Girl Outlast Lipstains (they're new and I wanted to check them out). I ended up getting #440 -- "wild berry wink". It is THE perfect strawberry pinup red! It is a bit drying so add a bit of clear gloss before/after (my absolute, all-time favourite die-hard clear gloss that I have bought over & over a hundred times is NYC's strawberry roll-on gloss, seriously, it really is the best and I have tried them ALL). You should definitely try it -- and hey, way cheaper and less snobby than MAC! Here in Canada it was around $8.99 plus tax, though I'm sure over there it's probably half that! It also has a candy smell, which is always great fun. If I didn't look like death after working all night I would take a pic for you, maybe later! Okay, I lied, here ya go (crappy photobooth pic):

I did end up picking up Ruby Woo tonight. The girl who was working at the MAC counter tonight was one of the nicer ones. FluidLine next week.

I like the Mr. Mascara ones but the basic ones (in the pink box which you get in Rite Aid etc) are perfectly serviceable.

Trick is to let the glue get tacky so wait a few seconds before starting to apply it... if it's wet it will slide around.

And I agree with the comment about doing your make-up after, not before. Widens the margin of error!

I have Ardells, I think. They won out because they had latex free adhesive. I'm unwilling to buy the expensive ones till I'm sure I'm not going to end up with them glued to my forehead or something.

Are they theoretically reusable? And how do you remove them?

My new boss uses her cleavage as a strategic weapon in business. I mean, sure some women do that ın the States, too but she's plungıng way beyond anythıng I've ever seen except for an evenıng gown. I guess you can get away wıth that around here.

Awwww. Cute. The danger part, that'd be me. I might've thrown a piece of popcorn or two. On a date it's fun but you might get the whole bowl thrown at you which also is fine.

Cleavage at work just cracks me up, though. Of course you're going to stare, can't help it but imagine it's while you're talking to your BOSS about tomorrow's big presentation. She always has my divided attention. Har.

Naah, you are dead-on right. It defintely WORKS. Gets her what she wants. But she's a flack, PR, certain kind of industry. Btw DG you are my first LJ friend in 7 years from near me, I grew up on Cape Cod, hence the name. Today I get to watch BSG thank God. Finally got the stupid computer to display it.

OMG. I grew up 3 mıles from Dennnısport. I started a massıve beerfıght (throwıng beer on each other) at the Irısh Pub one nıght. BZ's pızza. Improper Bostonian. MAC Russian Red
The Besame reds are also amazing but a little harder to get. My favorite of those is Red Velvet, but they are all really nice.

For the lashes I use a q-tip with the fuzz taken off instead of a toothpick, but that's just because I never have any toothpicks.

I was thinking about Russian Red or Ruby Woo, kind of. I'm sort of thinking about gloss, though, since my lips are dry and splitting right now.

I am going to try the qtip thing for sure.
