Putting off resizing the photos that [livejournal.com profile] mom_o_cass kindly emailed...

10 Things I've Done That You Probably Haven't:
1. Fractured my neck. When I was 7, I fell on my head off the monkey bars, compressed 3 vertebrae, and stress fractured my neck.
2. Dislocated both thumbs. I have extra lax joints and can dislocate most of my joints on will.
3. Stop & Shop bust. Nuff said, it's not ever day a you see a gun pulled on someone less than 10 feet away. Nor should it be.
4. Star Wars. I haven't seen any of the original three. I went to the new ones because Steven really wanted to go and I like to look at Ewan McGregor. Ssh.
5. I have no gag reflex. None at all, which is awesome when you get strep throat cultures.
6. Geneology. I can trace the Nickerson side back to the Mayflower and, while filling out information, found out my friend Beth and I are 9th cousins.
7. Had my plica removed. The plica is an extra bit of cartilage that usually disappears before birth, but remains in about 10% of babies.
8. I've never had chicken pox.
9. I've touched dolphins and emperor penguins.
10. I've been squirted by a squid.

[livejournal.com profile] princessbunny made her wink for me.

Geneology is amazing stuff. On my father's side, we trace back to Elizabeth Bathory, the Blood Countess, and Beth has us tracing over to Phillip the Fair. It's scary when you realize, in the long run, how interrelated everyone tends to be.

the most interesting thing ive learned lately is that my grandfathers people were the anti mormons that were against my grandmothers family. They both were from missouri, but my grandmothers family was LDS, and grandfathers people were part of the mob that murdered raped and tortured the mormons.

yeah... my aunts were talking about it in hushed tones, like they were embarassed that they were related to the Mobs. It was a long time ago though(200 yrs) and Now they too are LDS so.... bygones are bygones in my eyes.

That's really interesting. We mostly have a lot of intermarriage, best the few oddballs.

Have you been to Ancestry.com? Very helpful. Also, if you find any Nickersons, let me know, because I have the geneology here.

Our huge library down in utah gets vistors from all over the world. i hope to see it someday. meanwhile i access it at my local chapel. i havent done it in a while though. i really should get back into it. that stuff is so interesting. i love hearing all the stories!

That's really, really cool. I wish we had a resource like that! A lot of ours here (Mayflower Society, DAR libraries, etc) are things you have to join to use and to use you have to prove ancestry. Catch-22, really.

But yea, it's really cool. I just found a tape of my great-grandfather, who worked on the tall ships before captaining a tug, singing sea shanties.

you do. over half of the people that use our resources(and our downloadable geneology program) arent mormon. its open for everyone. especially our huge library, or the local ones, there used to be a ton of little old ladies that would come every day and they were catholic.

Oh, do they have an online database? I would love to be able to do more research there. Especially since *cough* I'm putting off doing my DAR app.

Daughters of the American Revolution. Essentially, a snooty old whitebread lady society, but they have good scholarships and great research facilities.

I'm definitely not winning Catholic of the year here :)

I'm fairly sure I won't get in because I can't make their Friday day meetings, but it's worth a shot.

I figure God's got to be less worried about the little things (birth control, cursing) than the big ones.

I love my IUD. I wouldn't give it up for the world, especially since now would not be the best time for us to have children.

I know there was a girl in [livejournal.com profile] iud_divas who had fairly severe epilepsy and ended getting one because it was one of the few methods that would be still effective. If you ever want to know anything about them, I'll be happy to talk to you about it. I've had mine a year.
