Obit's in the paper today: http://www.legacy.com/providence/Obituaries.asp?Page=LifeStoryPrint&PersonID=98960057

I should go out and get a copy of the ProJo, I guess. I don't even know where around here there'd be one.

I thought I was doing ok this morning, but I'm really not. I kind of almost wish stupid MIL would call again so I could have something to be angry about.

Edit: The family, at a happier time. Mum and I do not look similar.

She was gorgeous; look at that picture.

You look SO much like her.

That's one of my favourite pictures of her. She really was beautiful, even in old age. I hope I look like her when I grow old.

It's funny, Ma says the same thing. She looks very much like my grandpa, but I got all the Nickerson genes, I guess. The three of us all sound the same, too. Makes it bittersweet to talk on the phone to my mum...

Thanks. She really was, inside and out. She seriously was the most amazing person I've ever met.

It's funny, all the Nickerson genes skipped a generation. My mum looks so much like my grandpa. I wish I had a dollar for all the times people looked at Ma and me and then asked if I was adopted. Because people are just tactful like that.

I'm posting a picture of all of us from a couple years ago to illustrate how much Ma and I do not look alike.

You're right! You look nothing like your mother, but even in that picture, you can see the resemblance between you and your grandma. You have her eyebrows, her eyes, her face structure...It's really quite remarkable.

It's strange, isn't it? I look nothing like my father, either. I inherited pure Nickerson looks. I do hope, if we ever have a daughter, the red hair doesn't skip a generation.

People asked me if I was adopted many times when I was growing up. I always thought it was such a weird and rude thing to say to a complete stranger and how upsetting that might be if I was adopted.
That is a lovely picture of all of you and your Grandma looks so pretty and happy.

I know! I can't believe how damn rude some people are, right?

That was a good birthday. It's funny, I was two days away from having surgery when that photo was taken, but we were all so happy.

Yeah, I can't believe how rude people are. It is so much worse no that I have a child. I love getting yelled at by random strangers at the grocery store for having my son up too late.

Obviously, when you have a child, it means everyone must give you advice or the world will implode, right?

It is seriously the hardest thing for me about being a parent and not something that I was really expecting to happen that much. I was expecting to hear a ton of advice/criticism from my mom, grandma, and MIL, but not from complete strangers. Now people can't shut up about him not being potty trained and telling me when I should have another baby. One of my husband's coworkers told us that our son is too old for us to have another baby and that he will just have to be an only child. My husband didn't even know what this woman's name was.

Holy christ! I am so not looking forward to this when we have kids.

Trey's under 3, right? My SS wasn't fully potty trained until he was almost 6 (still having accidents, not telling us when he had to go, just going in his pants because he was doing other stuff), so I wouldn't worry about it. My nephews are 5 1/2 years apart-- no one should be telling you when to have another kid.

It really is horrible. People also tend to say more stuff to me when my husband is not with us or they will say it quietly so he can't hear them. The first and only time we took Trey to a baseball game this old lady walked up to him and grabbed the popcorn out of his hand and started yelling at me about how he was too young to be eating that. It spilled all over when she yanked it away and then she told me I needed to clean it up. Luckily the usher came over and took her back to her seat. My husband was oblivious to all of this since he was busy chatting with one of his coworkers. As soon as we walked in to the game that lady started complaining to her friend about how he shouldn't be at the game.
Yes, Trey won't be three until April and he uses the toilet sometimes so I thought we were doing pretty well. My nephew is 4.5 and he is still working on the whole potty training thing.

I love that picture of her. I believe that's the one that she gave my grandfather before he left for the war. She's lovely in all the photos I have of her.

It's funny, I always knew I looked similar to her, but the more I see this photo, the more I am realizing how much she and I do look alike. I was looking at some of her pictures yesterday; I look more like her than her sister did.

I will also chime in and say how alike the two of you look!

And your mom looks like one of my patient's daughters. It's so uncanny, I had to remind myself that she doesn't live in my town.

ProJo is the Providence Journal.

Thanks. Every time I look at this photo, I noticed more similarities.

i remember this birthday entry--omg...how eerie the resemblance between the pair of you!

she's beautiful--and you look EXACTLY like her...people tell me that I look like my grandmother--and i see it....

you do look like her sam, and you are like her in a lot of ways....and as you get older and start having some babies (and she'll be there every step of the way to guide you) you'll act like her too....

she's an amazing woman, and she helped raise two amazing women too....

she isn't gone, just out for a bit...you'll see her before you know it!

*huggs* i loves you sam...if ever you need anything, please call me...you have the number.
