Today was pretty good, actually. I had an appointment to get my hair trimmed up, but I was really early, so Steven and I bought a loaf of bread and fed the goosen in the little pond next to Schroeder's in Riverside. They were, of course, delighted by the attention.

Chris took me in a little early and now my hair looks the way I wanted it to to begin with. Hooray from remembering to bring pictures. It's all cute and spiky in the back ([livejournal.com profile] blackwingwolf, you'll get to see it Monday.)

Did laundry at my grandparents, loaded up a dozen CDs into iTunes for my grampa, and hung out with my gramma. I also played with her kitteh, who is tentatively being named Penelope (as in Pesty Penelope). She's really funny, she sits like a 50 year old union worker, like "Mah harbawls, let me show you them"... you know, if she had any. My gramma wasn't feeling really great today. She actually went and laid down for a bit while we were there. I felt bad I didn't bring them anything. I think when we go down in a couple weeks, I'm going to try to bake a pie or something... You know, when I can use my kitchen again. Must put things away this week.

First of all, Providence Place is the biggest clusterfrak ever to get to and going on a Saturday was a bloody nightmare. Apparently, we were not thinking or something because finding a place to park was a nightmare. At least parking is a lot cheaper now. Three or fewer hours is $1, 3-5 is $5 and anything more than that is too much time to spend in a mall unless you're working there. We had dinner at Popeye's, which was not only kind of blah, but they screwed our order up and Steven had to go back 8 million and 10 times.

I was a little low on conditioner, so I stopped in to check out the Lush at the mall. I still like the Harvard Square one best. The staff was really nice, but the kid who checked us out didn't even out paper or anything around the things I bought, so they kind of got smushed together and a little crushed. They weren't ruined, but I also wasn't very happy. I understand the naked thing, I totally support it, but a little butcher paper won't kill the enviroment and will save my products.

I bought the 500g American Creme, which is my new addiction, an MMM bath melt, a Marathon bubble bar, and a Seanick solid shampoo. Samples were a chunk of Lemslip buttercreme and a 1/8oz slice of Sandstone. I also had a chance to see/smell/touch Curly Wurly (not sure I liked) and The Big Tease, which I might actually try next time I'm in there. I have some putty from Fructis that I don't really like that much, so I'm looking to try something new. Next promotion should be spend $45, get a free hair goop. I'm sure I could manage to spend that much in there...

Reviews! I haven't had a chance to use much more than I was regularly using, so I kind of saved up on it.

American Creme: Oh lord, I thought I liked Jungle, this is unholy. My hair apparently is completely smitten with this and behaves gorgeously. Soft, tangle-free, and I only need to use a teeny bit. It's been about a monthish and I'm only halfway through the 100g bottle. I've never been able to use just a teeny bit of conditioner on my hair. I always have to glop tonnes and tonnes on, even with short hair. I'm not going to question why it works. Anyhow, it also smells absolutely delicious, like a honey-vanilla milkshake and the scent lingers. 5 stars for me

Coalface: When I'm feeling lazy, I snag Steven's Coalface instead of using my Aquamarina. I really don't like how it smells. Lush alleges it smells of liquorice with a hint of sandalwood, but I think it kind of has a strange charcoal briquette smell to it. It does, however, do a damn good job of cleaning up my face and keeping oil to a minimum, which is really awesome. Between the Aquamarina and the Coalface, my skin looks amazing. So yea, it stinks, but it works. 4 stars.

Hot Milk?: This was ok. I'm glad it was free, because I wouldn't have bought it otherwise. It kind of reminded me of what plain soymilk smells like, the water was really blah, it didn't bubble much, and the bubbles disappeared about 5 minutes into the bath. Not very moisturising, either. I don't think Steven cared for it either. 1 star

Bathos: I am a sucker for for anything that is a) purple and b) violet scented. Hell, I have a violet tattooed on my hip. That should be some kind of indicator. I was totally not disappointed by this in the least. Tonnes of beautifully scented bubbles which lasted beyond the bath, lovely violet water, and the scent lingered. It was also moist enough to crumble very easily, unlike the Hot Milk? 5 stars

Reincarnate: DISCONTINUED 9/07 I hated this. We got a good sized sample and it just sucks. Steven's hair is flakier when he uses it, it crumbles horribly, zero lather, impossible to get it on your hands to rub onto your hair and it crumbles if you use it on your head, and it has this weird old raisin smell to it. No stars, utter FAIL.

Haagenbath: Very nice. It did smell quit a bit like mint chocolate chip ice cream. Fizzed wonderfully and even made a few little bubbles. The water turned a nice pink shade with white froth. The water was very silky and enjoyable. One caveat: the water was very cooling feeling. This would be a great summer/hot night, but when it's chilly and you want a nice cozy bath, it's not quite as good. I'd still buy again, though. 4 stars.

The Blonde: Being a redhead, I've not used this, but my mum LOVES it and is asking me to get her more next time they have it in stock. She gives it 4 stars.

Delia*s had the dress I've been having kittens over, but it didn't fit really well. Damn thick upper arms and damn boobs. I did get two cute thermally tops, one with partridges and one with owls. They were a bargain at $6.99.

We hit up JC Penney's while we were there and it was surprisingly not great. The one in Natick is way better, so I guess I'll make a trip out there, eventually. I went to Penney's originally to find a new pencil skirt for school and maybe some tops. Instead, I got some kind of slutty no show lacey knickers, some black slacks for school, and Skecher's Waterlily shoes in brown (which I saw in [livejournal.com profile] easter's journal and just fell in love with. I want to get the black ones eventually too. Steven got a pair of cords and a couple nice polos for work.

Then I bought Sex with Queens from Border's because I have Sex with Kings and it was pretty good, so I figure this should be pretty awesome. Steven got some book on Abraham Lincoln, and I got another book on the real story of the Bounty.

Then we came home, I took a bath, and I am sleep as hell. We're going to brunch tomorrow before eye appointments and car inspections and visiting my intubated FIL. I'm sure there will be a MIL drama post tomorrow. It's been pretty good.

He has fluid around his heart, bad enough to make getting an EKG difficult. His remaining kidney (other was removed because it had a 10cm mass on it) is failing, so he's going on dialysis for the time being, and they have him tubed because he can't breath really on his own. I heard something about his needing a heart valve replaced and he also MUST lose at least 40lbs. He told Steven he's not sure how much longer he's going to be here, so things aren't looking great.

Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. He will really need it to make it through all of this.

Aaaand that's my day, folks.

I'll keep your FIL and your family in my thoughts.

Yay for shopping and buying good stuff! I love Lush and am glad to hear from someone I know that Coalface works to cut down on the greasies. I think I'll try it next time because Angels on Bare Skin and Herbalism just aren't doing the job. :( I've never had luck at JC Penney's but I've also never shopped at the Natick store... maybe I'll give it a try.

It smells like a BBQ, but damned if it doesn't work. I like the Aquamarina a lot, too. It makes my face almost powdery soft.

Try the Natick one. If nothing else, they have an in store Sephora.

See, I like the Reincarnate shampoo, but I agree with you that it is crumbly and doesn't lather well, although the last time I used it I was able to get a decent lather in my hands. For me I think it is the smell that keep me attracted to it.

I hope to be able to pick up a few things on our trip...maybe in Chicago or something. I'd like to get a face kit to travel with than use what I currently have.

Thoughts to your FIL. I can understand how you feel right now.

My knockers barely fit at Delia*s. I did get two cute thermal shirts though.

Lush is awesome. I love it for the freebies alone. And the samples!
