I actually have a lot to update, but I really haven't felt like it. I'm striving to keep up with this journal, however, because journaling is one of the requirements for my Writing II class. This way, I can just print things out at the end of the semester. I like writing, I just haven't found a journal I've wanted to write in, yet.

So anyhow... I'm back to being a professional student, thanks to Barnes & Noble and their minions of Satan. I'm not getting into the whole sordid account on my front page, but you can read about it I had been having problems with the schedule on and off since I started classes. They kept scheduling me during the day, even though I pointed out to them I had classes. Rather than changing the (oft changed) schedule, Peter kept telling me to "come in whenever". I guess everytime I wasn't showing up at 9am, they were counting it as a no show, no call until I'd come in around 5:30, when they'd write down I was 8½ hours late. Anyhow, I figured it was because they were just disorganised like they had been from the start. Stupidly, I thought when they got a "real" schedule for after the store had opened, things would improve.

Oh, how wrong I was.

When they posted the schedule for the next three weeks, the first thing that I noticed was that I was scheduled at 4 on Tuesdays. I have a lab on Tuesdays that runs 3 to 5. I put 6:30 as the earliest available time I could get to the store. I never, in any way, shape, or form said 4. I immediatly went to Peter, who is in charge of scheduling, and told him there must have been a mistake; my availability says 4. He told me there was no mistake, he just hadn't bothered to look at my availability when he did the schedule. Nice, right?

Rather than trying to fix it or apologising, he told me that the schedule was set and I could either skip the lab and work it, or he'd straight out take me off the schedule. I told him he'd have to take me off the shedule for that night because there was no way that I was going to skip my lab. He took me off every day I was on for the rest of the three weeks.

I attended the store meeting Monday, only to find out that I was scheduled until 10 on the DAS, but not on the actual schedule. I had been told that I just needed to come in for a couple hours for the meeting and I had made plans to work on my paper after.  I left around 6:30.

I worked Friends & Family Night, no problems. I came back in Friday for my regularly scheduled shift and worked that with no problems. Peter mentioned to me that Diane wanted to talk to Steven and me after my shift about scheduling.  She pulled Steven in when he was picking me up.

We went back to the break room and she called Peter to sit in with us. This is when I started having misgivings about their intentions. The first words out of Diane's mouth were "It's not working out. You two just don't fit into our culture." What the hell kind of lame excuse is that? I read obsesssively. I'm a college student. I'm an English major, for christ's sake! How does that not fit into Barnes & Nobles' culture? She proceded to give some trumped up hooey about how Steven and I harassed Peter to change the schedule and how I came in late for my shifts or just didn't show up for them.

That, folks, would be a blatant lie. I was, in fact, late by two hours the day that I had scheduling for my classes, but I called twice and spoke to Ben, who said it was fine, just come in as soon as I could. I have phone records to prove this. I showed him the timestamp on my schedule to prove that I had truely been in Bridgewater until after 6. The other shift that I "didn't show up for" was one that I told them I could not work and they kept me on the schedule anyway. This was one that I had informed Peter of as soon as I saw it. The reason I didn't call was because I was in Vermont and didn't get home until after 9 that night. I called as soon as I got up the next morning to explain to Ben, who had been the one to call, what had happened. He said Peter never told him about the schedule change.

Funny, they dropped the not calling when I was late song and dance when I told them that I had phone records to prove that I had called, too.

So, basically, they ignored me after that and went on about all of the things Steven had allegedly done. Of course, Diane also said straight out that neither of us had actually done anything wrong. People liked us, a lot, but we just weren't a "cultural fit". Mind also, she didn't have our last cheques, either.

Nice to sack two people in the same room, isn't it? Nothing like giving an automatic witness to collaberate stories. Oh, and I also hadn't checked out during all of this. I got paid to get sacked. How ironic.

When we went in to pick up our prizes on Sunday, I guess almost no one, including Ben, the assistant manager, knew. Really good. So, we passed around info and hopefully we'll be able to keep in touch with the people we met there.

Sunday, we went up to the North Shore Spirit vs. the New Jersey Jackals championship game, as we are friendly with one of New Jersey's pitchers. It was actually a super afternoon for a game, which they won in extra innings. We ended up talking to Jackson for a bit after the game was over and he asked if we were coming tomorrow [Monday] night to see the final game. We told him that we probably weren't because we had just gotten sacked and didn't know if we'd have the money. He immediatly offered to get tickets for us to sit in the New Jersey fan section,  as long as we could tell him how many we wanted.

Needless to say, Jackson is cool beyond words. Also tall, but that's not the point.

The game Monday night was fantastic. The New Jersey fans are amazing. I felt more like a fan of their team than I do the Rox and we've had season tickets for 2 years! Highlight of the game was their rather large (I mean tall and muscular, not fat) first baseman doing a split to get the thrid out of an inning. I wish I had my camera out.

Surfice to say, they won 4-3 in the regular 9 innings. We were pulled onto the field by the Jersey fans to celebrate.

By celebrating, I mean being hugged by most of the players who were sweaty and somewhat dirty. I was patted, hugged, and shaken hands with by many people I did not know. The only person I vaguely knew that hugged me was Jackson. "Give me some love!" How Californian of him...

That's been the highlight of the week. I should have pictures eventually.

We went down to Rhode Island to see my grandparents earlier that day. One of these days, I need to bring down the XP disk and reinstall XP on Grampa's computer. Hopefully next week-end. He gave us a nice CD played for the apartment (which needs to be cleaned). It's a 5 disk changer with speakers and two cassette players. We had apple pie with them, which makes me want to cook like you can't imagine. I wish I could get to the kitchen.

School's going well.. I'm still liking the classes, which is a totally novel experience. I have a paper I should be working on, but meh... I'm doing homework here. I'm also going out with my mom in a little bit to dress shop for Donna's wedding. I'm not too into that, but I need a dress. I slept badly last night. That idiot hum I mentioned a couple entries ago kept me up on and off all night.

Laura, you need to update with more surveys! I need content for my site.

I post 'em as fast as Karen emails 'em to me. Maybe my goal tomorrow will be stealing them from little kids journals. I love that shit. Woo.
