Towson Uni suspended an orthodox Jewish officer for refusing to work on Shabbat or on Rosh Hashana. They are looking to collect 1,000 signatures by Friday. Anyhow, much appreciated if anyone would like to sign.
Dear President Caret,
We as Towson University students, faculty, staff, family, alumni, friends and neighbors recognize the great emphasis that Towson University places on diversity and cultural sensitivity. It is for this reason that we implore you, President of Towson University, to please reinstate Officer David Brown without any further delay.
Officer Brown was placed on suspension by the Towson University Police Department, because as an Orthodox Jew, he cannot work on the Jewish Sabbath or Holidays.
At Towson University, students are required to take ethics courses, where they are taught that they have a greater responsibility than meeting the bare minimum requirements of the law. Whether Towson University is within its legal rights to terminate Officer Brown or not, the University should be held to a higher, ethical, standard.
We feel that it is inappropriate to discriminate against anyone, based on race, religion, or gender. As a leading Maryland university, it is Towson University that is setting the example for so many future leaders of the world.
David Brown is a dedicated officer. He is also a dedicated Jew. Please do not make him choose between the two.
