Steven, as everyone knows, is divorced and has a child. In light of trying to blend us all into a family, as well as trying to avoid the pitfalls in both of our previous relationships, we decided on premarital counseling and it been going well.

Some of what we've been talking about is his apprehension towards discussing anything wedding related, except in brief fits and starts. It's like we know we're getting married and it'll be in a few years, but other than that nothing.

At dinner after our appointment, we started chitchatting about what we had covered in tonight's session. It started out with some reassurances that, unlike his ex-wife, I am not marrying him for the sake of getting married. I told him if he wanted to get married tomorrow, with no one but the judge present, I'd have no problem. I'm marrying him because he's my best friend and I want to spend the rest of my life with him, wedding or not. I also told him that it sometimes makes me nervous that he never wants to set down a when.

He then tells me "Well, I was thinking that we'd get married in the next two years." So that means that I will probably be a legally married lady in October of 2006, most likely! [We had actually picked a month for Vegas, but not date for a ceremony.]

More interesting yet, I wheedled out of him that he has designed an official engagement ring himself. I do have a ring currently, but it's silver and a lab created stone because I am a poor student and he is substitute teaching while he looks for a full time job. I love the ring I have and could care less, but he has told me very strongly that he wants to "do things right."

Anyhow, I'm very excited and wanted to share.

I wanted to get married in October (Halloweeen!) but we settled on November 8, the day after my birthday. I have a silver and cz ring and there hasn't been a person I've met who can't tell it's not "real". My husband wants to get me something nicer (probably thinking along the lines of yours) and we have been looking into titanium rings. We found nice ones with for real diamonds (tiny ones, but still!) for very reasonable prices. We are aiming for the plat/big diamond deal on our 10th anniversary (or when we hit the lottery-I'm pretty sure the 10th will come first though). If you want some of the titanium websites I found, let me know and I'll be happy to spam you with my finds.

I've been looking at titanium, as well. A couple of our friends got married (also in October) and chose titanium. I like the indestructibleness of it. No one's been able to tell mine's not real either.

Thanks, I may take you up on the offer of the websites.
