Those of you who are local on my flist, I have an awesome tip for you.

One of my co-workers came in with some very pretty sapphire earrings. Her husband had bought them for her. Obviously, I asked where and she said a bait shop! Mum and I went there today and the guy has, aside from having bait, imports jewelry from Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. Most of what he has is sapphires and rubies, but he also has some Indian emeralds. It's all very, very reasonably priced, too.

It's right across from the USS Salem museum, on the right if you're coming off the bridge from Weymouth. I'll post pictures of the earrings soon as I'm not so tired.

But definitely check him out. He also has gorgeous ombre dyed scarves and other silks. So cool!

I wish I lived near you. :(

I would totally go and buy some emeralds...

It really is a random little place, but it's so cool. I'm definitely going back.

I'm so glad you found that place. Rick, the owner is a really good friend of mine from Lodge. He was overseas when the tsunami hit and lost some friends. He spent most of the rest of the trip as a volunteer helping survivors. He's wicked smart and a cool guy.

That's terrible about his losing friends. He's lucky to have gotten back.

He reminds me a lot of my stepfather, actually, right down to the vocal intonations. I wish I had known about his place earlier.

It's unbelievably reasonably priced. Definitely check it out.

(Mm, disposable income. I wish I had that, too.)

Rick is awesome - I love that he knows my kids by name and talks to them respectfully (as in, not like they're dumb little kids) every time we go to his shop. We haven't been fishing yet this year but it's on the calendar for next weekend... I'll be sure to check out the jewelry.

He has a wonderful eye for jewelry.

That's great to hear. I know he was very personable to us, talking to my mum about Rhode Island and places that she'd fished when she was a child. I'm more than happy to tell people about him.

Heh, I know the feeling. Luckily, you can pack jewelry up pretty easily.
