Hey mummies, can anyone recommend me a sling? My sister wants one for the new baby, but she's afraid it'll hurt her back. She's 4'11" and about 95lbs not pregnant. She had a bad back from a childhood car accident. I'm pretty sure the backpack style ones are out for her. Can anyone give me good info, as I'd really like to buy her one.

In other words, I'm back from Vermont and exhausted. Trip details tomorrow.

hmm, want me to ask [livejournal.com profile] babywearer? I suppose you could also ask yourself! I like hotslings and covet a babyhawk" but that might not work for her... I'm not sure she might even like a peanutshell

personally a sling may not be the thing for her. I have a bad back and wearing my little babe makes me ache after a half hour. a mei tei would work better.

what is your price range?

After doing loads of research, I got a Peanut Shell & Sean got a New Native sling, but we have no real experience with them yet aside from carrying Lola around sometimes.

I used a hotsling when Wyn was a newborn, and switched to the mei-tai a few months back. I've heard the mei-tai (I got mine from http://www.meitaicarrier.com) recommended for women who are shorter, because the length can be adjusted if you are short waisted, etc. (you just roll it). You should join [livejournal.com profile] babywearer, and ask there. You'd get a LOT of helpful information. Probably too much, lol!

The best place to buy a sling that won't cause/irritate back problems is online. Stores don't carry the good ones.
