So yesterday, I finally did it. I quit the hell that was Country Marketplace and I feel fucking GREAT!
The whole job has been a complete clusterfuck since Judy left two weeks ago. Jane starting driving me nuts about things that I had never had the chance to be told about since she had never gotten back to Judy or to me about training. She also never upped my pay from the menial $7 that I was making.
I worked all morning last Saturday and when one of the trainees came in to switch off, I had her check her paystub to see if she was paid her holiday pay or not. It turns out that I had the wrong week, but someone had effed up anyhow. She told me that Meg had promised her $7.25 (more than I was making after a year) and Judy had set her at $7, but the office put it through as $6.75. Evidently, two hours after I left, she called Jane and told her she was leaving. I want to shake her hand.
Jane called me and wanted me to come back and work the rest of the night, as well as all day Sunday. I told her that I was not coming back and working all night after being there all day. Before I hung up with her, she set up a meeting for 4pm on Monday to talk about my raise and offical titles and all.
When I came in on Sunday, the store was a total wreck. There was also no power to the charge machine, the fax machine, the back of the store, or the bathroom, plus a note about how I needed to schedule interviews for Monday, as well as do payroll.
Monday, there was still no power. I asked Lynn, the other trainee if she could cover for me tonight, since I had plans. She said fine. Jane called me 5 times and was progressively more rude each one. She never showed up at 4, nor did she call. I found out that she didn't get there until after 6. Nice...
Tuesday, Lynn called me to tell me that there was a nasty note from Jane and I might want to come in. She also had called Lynn to tell her to call me and have me call her on her cell phone. Why not just call me or ask for my number? Up until I read the note, I was intending to work the week out. However, the note basically said that I needed to reprioritise my life and I also needed to cancel my plans for Wednesday, since my job came first and Lynn wasn't trained to close, which was total shit. I had trained her and written detailed instructions for the how to folder. She also told me that I had to work this week-end and to cancel my plans.
I don't deserve that. Ironically, Lynn called the office and told them she was not coming back. I told Carole that I was sorry, but I was not dealing with Jane again. Country Marketplace is not my life. She gave me Jane's cell number and promised me that if I called, Jane would answer and maybe we could work something out. That was her last chance. Jane let her voicemail pick up, when the phone was obviously on and when she had told Lynn she would be there all day.
I have to get Matt to work now. I'm babysitting Steve's munchkin tonight (woo!) and hitting MassBay Community tomorrow. I'm good to go.
