More begging (for advice)

I know there are at least two of you on my flist who are very competant with make-up. I'm going for more of an evening thing. Have I frakked this up?

Make-Up: Messed up or not?

I don't know much about make-up... but I think it looks hot. You look good in lipstick- you have pretty lips for it. I always look like a clown.

Thanks! I'm trying to fake the smokey eye look from what the awesome man at Sephora showed me two months ago.

It will be less green, obviously :)

ETA: The lippie I'm wearing is MAC Lipglass in Ornamental and it's amazing. It looks different every time I wear it. So awesome.

Looks fine to me!

[identity profile] devilgrrl.livejournal.com 2008-07-31 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
So it doesn't look like it was applied by blind clowns?

haha nahhh.

Looks good, the lips are like BAM! right there. Good job.

You have very deep set eyes like me. I've learned to keep the darker color out towards the outer edges of my eyes. I start about half way and go out and up a bit. I find also that if I layer a lighter second color in the crease and pull that all the way out it helps too and then to top it off I usually use something very light, like white to highlight the brow area and to keep my eyes from sinking too far into the back of my head. For the lid part on the inside of my eyes, near my nose I use a lighter color. I tend to gravitate towards frosts too, but that's because I like glittery things. I don't use all frosts for my eyes, but do use both frost and mattes. Overall your makeup looks very nice. And if you are going to someplace rather dark or a place that has lots of theatre type lighting you could even go darker and more dramatic. It might appear harsh to you in regular light but you are putting makeup on for a darkened room which means you need to accent even more.
As for your lipstick. Go wine or deep red because with the color of your skin and those great kissable lips I think that would be a great evening color for you.

It's a wedding reception, so definitely will be dark!

I'm writing these notes down to see if I can do a better job tomorrow.

I kind of wish I had stopped to get a red gloss. That one is sheer copper and I have hot pink and coral as other choices.

I think you look awesome!! :D

Thanks! You were definitely one of the people I was really hoping would have an opinion.

I'm personally really not digging that lipstick. I think something either darker and more berry-like OR something a bit pinker would be better.

Personal rule of thumb-when doing going out makeup, either emphasize the lips OR the eyes, not both.

But you're still adorable ^.^

[identity profile] devilgrrl.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm. I could definitely go a little pinker or layer it. The colour is actually pinker when not take with my MacBook camera (see icon).

I have no basis for make-up. It was always theatre stuff or nothing, so this is over my head.

And thanks!

I think with make-up, you should either emphasize the eyes or emphasize the lips.

So if you go with the smoky Kohl eyeliner, go with a pale, neutral-color lipgloss.

If you want to keep the sexy red lipstick, skip the eyeliner and just use mascara on the lashes.

Hope that helps!

That does. I might change up thing a little when I do it tomorrow.

Okay, it's probably too late for my opinion to matter, but it looks perfectly awesome.
