Shortest day of the year, folks, and I have been up since 5am. Why isn't it light out yet?

I noticed from my basement hovel that no matter how many times I hit the snooze button, it wasn't getting lighter outside. But when I left, I realized that's because we are having a gloomy, rainy day.

It managed to get sunny around 3pm which was totally when I went to take a nap. Ugh, winter.
