We've had insane weather here today. It was dark and dreary all day, so I had been expecting rain. Around 16.00, I thought I heard my grandfather get up; it sounds like he was in the office chair, rolling it on the floor. After about 15 minutes of this, I realized it was thunder. It got dark, bad enough that i had to turn on lights, and the rain started. I ended up venturing upstairs when I started hearing hail.

We ended up with marble sized hail and a tornado warning, as well as a couple reports of water spouts. My grandfather and I were seriously considering heading back to the basement; that's how bad the winds were getting. The street ended up flooding out. After the worst of the storm, I ventured out. There was a plank floating down the street which had to be moved. The water in the middle of the street was halfway up my calves and at its deepest, to my knees.

Obviously, I am not going anywhere till the water goes down a little more. Steven said Boston was all fucked up from the weather, too, so I am going to pick him up from the train when he gets in. His 17'00 became a 17'40.

New icon, too. It's from my crappy birthday, but at least I look nice in it.

O hai

I am finally starting to feel human again. It only took a week. My sinuses still hurt, but that's basically it. This is the first time I've been down this long with a non-bronchitis thing. I pretty much sat on my ass all day today. I'm still mostly energyless, so the house is a wreck because Steven also feels like butt. He has an abscessed tooth, so he's also doing the fever and pain thing.

SNL is all kinds of bad, already.

I did dye my hair today. It's interesting and I haven't decided if I actually like it or not yet. It was wet when I saw it, though, so I'm not really going to judge it till it's dried. Or till I take bad self portraits and let teh intarwebz decide. There is still pink in my hair from this summer. Seriously, I used semi-permanent dye. I've dyed my hair easier 7 or 8 times since then and two times have involved some fairly serious bleach. Really. They need to start making regular dye because it lasts longer than anything else I've used.

Steven came home and I promptly rushed him off to the market because we had essentially zero food in the house beside Kix and veg stock. We even ran out of soup yesterday, which made me sad. It made for an expensive trip, but we have a good week and a half of food, in addition to stocking up on some of the staples we'd run out of. And frozen fish. I can't seem to live without frozen fish. I really am trying to eat better and I'm good about 75% of the time.

Of course, I totally would live on takeaway if I weren't married to someone who cooks. It's pretty firmly established that it's best if I stick to baking and don't try to cook anything that doesn't involve the microwave.

I once again forgot all kinds of things I wanted, like mixed veg for the soup, so we have to go back to Bread & Circus tomorrow. I need to start shopping with a list again. I have a list on the fridge, but funny that, it doesn't help when it's home and I am out.

I did, at least, buy many delicious things. Holy muffin, I finally succumbed to the whole fresh ground peanut butter thing and just ...damn... I bought the honey roasted kind and it is so incredibly good. It is destined for my lunch tomorrow because I finally replaced our honey. I'm going to price compare, but I think it's about the same as crappy Skippy, which makes me sick anyway. I also bought almond milk for my cereal. I really wish this stuff had existed/been available when I did the vegan thing years ago. Not that I probably would have totally given up the cow, since I love it, but because I might have actually had healthy habits.

Looks like I won't get much done tomorrow, either. I should clean up and we need to do laundry. I really do feel like a bum because the place isn't clean as it could be. I suppose it can't be helped, though.

Oh, and in more weather win: it was cold and raw all day, it warmed up to 62* around 8:30, and the high tomorrow is 38*. It poured something wicked all day and now we're having wind that just knocked the cable offline. I can haz spring plz?

Dammit

Dear Winter:

Seriously, I get that it's still February and arguably, you're entitled to at least another month of blustering, but for Christ's sake, PICK A SEASON. It was 12* yesterday morning, it's going to be 50* today, we got several inches of snow overnight, now it's sleeting, and then we're going to have enough rain for flooding. This is not cool and it's not going out with a bang. It's snow or it's rain. Make up your mind.

Also: enough with the bastard-ass cold. There is no reason it needs to be any lower than 20* and the wind chill? Not okay either. I don't need to lie shivering in my bed, wondering if the window's going to be blown out by 50mph wind gusts.

Spring could come any day now and none of us would miss you. No one invited you to the party anyway.

P.S. While I'm at it, if you're going to have weather MPD, could you at least make sure to have one form enough for a delay? I'd really like to have slept for another hour or so.

Ugh

It was 65* yesterday and tomorrow, we're getting up to a half foot of snow. Why, New England, why?
devilgrrl: (I loved-ed you)

I think I'm going to have to take a trip down to the ocean later. All I can smell is the ocean and it's early for the seabreeze.

Blah

Dear Weather:

Where exactly do you think we live? Seattle? 7" of rain is too much. Please knock it off.

Signed,
Waterlogged

PS. You're making the damn black mold in the building worse. Neither of us can breathe. Seriously, enough is enough.
devilgrrl: (Badger)
It is cold, windy, snowing, and we are also having thunder and lightning, which I personally hate. What the fuck, New England? What the fuck?
devilgrrl: (Default)
I have WeatherFox as an add on to my Firefox browser. It gives me happy little pop-ups to let me know what the weather is like. Usually this is great. However, my little pop-up just told me that it's 78 degrees and raining. However, in reality, it's brightly overcast and 82. I mean, it's muggy as hell, but it sure isn't raining. In fact, the sun is peaking out.

I want fruit salad really badly.Today just seems like one of those days to sit outside and eat a nice fruit salad.

Bah

On Tuesday, it was 80 around 9am. Today, the high was around 50. My knee is having kittens over the damned weather. I slept horribly last night because all it did was ache.

Dear New England,

I know your reputation is "If you don't like the weather, wait a minute", but do you think you could please make up your mind? It's the middle of June, not the middle of April. You fucked up May. Couldn't we please just have a little temperate weather?

Thanks.

For anyone who is interested, yes, the snow has already started and I am pathetic for being up this late. My excuse is that I really, really hurt from the dampness. I'm wearing my Icy Hot like war paint. I love the Chill Sticks. They're magic in a deoderant shaped container.
devilgrrl: (Default)
Adding insult to injury, evidently, my college is the only one stupid enough to remain open in the face of another foot of snow. Fuck if I'm going in if East Bridgewater, Brockton, Whitman, Rockland, Abington, and Weymouth are all closed. Mind you, most of those are the towns I drive through to get there.

I'll get there tomorrow, when we're not in Blizzard 05 Redux.

Our toilet is finally fixed and the repair man seriously reminded me of Robin Williams. I could have hugged him. I missed going to the bathroom.

Evidently Steven and I picked the right week-end to go to Vermont. Out of the storm, we only got 6". We didn't even have to shovel too much, because Dawn and Mike's place plowed everything, as long as we moved our cars.

We spent an extra night because my mother said that the snow was insane. We went to the mall, I bought an insane amount of clothing for amazing prices (I <3 Diamond Run Mall's JC Penney's), and Steven got an amazing fleece penguin hat for $10. When Mark & Shelby post their pictures from when we visited yesterday, I'll yoink them and put them up here. Or you can visit their blog and check them out. Either way, I just realised that the sweater I'm wearing tend to make me look huge because it just hangs down over my boobs. Sigh.

Anyhow, we really didn't do much on our extra day. Dawn worked on some of her portraits upstairs on her computer. I eventually had to give up and head back downstairs because my knee started killing me. We watched the Pats game and plotted the demise of Dawn's pesty, pesty kitten.

As stated above, we dropped in on the Sohmers after finding out that there was no school today, either. We finally arrived around 10:30.

Holy jesus, is there a lot of snow! I guess we're getting more on Wednesday... another 6" or so. We have about a foot on our porch, alone, that need to be cleared. There's about 30" on the ground outside. I guess it took Sue, the vice principal of Steven's school, 5 hours to get from the North End to Rockland. For those who don't live around here, that's normally a 40 minute or less trip. I'll put up with Vermont's assbiting cold, thanks.

We have no photos from Vermont because the damned batteries kept dying. I think we literally got one of my nephew, who is HUGE. He and Elliott are the same size now, except Elliott is a year older. You'd never know it though.

I actually need to shower, but I have no ambition. Steven's napping because he was on the phone until 2:30 last night with an old friend he thought might have died in 9/11. She, obviously, is still quite living. It's cool, though, because we had planned on just bumming around today. I think all we're really intending on doing is getting my crutch gel pads (I have horrible bruises and hot spots from the pressure against my bra underwires) and possibly return my Christmas present from Steven that doesn't fit.

OOH! They have the little snowcat out removing snow from our parking lot. Yay!

All right, off to shower now.

It's damnhellass windy outside. I had thought it was supposed to rain today, but I was evidently wrong.

Jerry Falwell is absolutely insane. I'm watching him on Meet the Press and the man seriously needs ECT or something.

Anyhow-- back to the topic at hand. It's dark, grey, and stupidly windy outside. I actually originally thought it was raining because of the way the dry leaves were being blown across the parking lot. I bet it's cold too.

Meh, I need to put socks on so we can get going to do our day things. I've got to return some slacks to the mall and stop by the old gym and drop off something.
devilgrrl: (Default)
It's beautiful, sunny, and is, in reality, only about 50. This is ok, because it's going to be gorgeous all week-end, through Marathon Monday. Actually, it's supposed to be in the 80s that day. I'm psyched.

I need to shower, but I don't want to in case I miss any phone calls. Evidently, my grandfather really hurt his back yesterday and ended up in the hospital this morning. I've talked to my mom and to Steven, but haven't heard back from anyone yet. Not the best way to spend a morning...

We watched The Fifth Element last night after bowling. It was really good and, of course, Milla Jovovich is not exactly hard on the eyes. I think we are potentially planning on watching it again tonight.

What else..? We bought some more art for the apartment and got a new shower curtain and bath mat, which brightens up the bathroom immensely. No luck finding another place yet, but I'm still looking. I'm thinking next week we'll go see a couple places. I was going to call a couple places today, but after the above news, I'm just sitting and waiting.

All right. I need to shower.

Meh

I don't want to be uuuuuuuuuuupppp. It evidently snowed last night which was the very last thing I wanted to see when I woke up. Unfortunately, this also means it's cold and, according to the weather guy, windy. Dammit.

So, I found an assload of new places (many with free shipping!) to buy new bras. Now I just wish I had the money to frivolously spend on undergarments. I spent too much yesterday at the Wrentham Premium Outlets. Boo. I did desperately need another pair of shoes to wear around work and they were buy one, get one ½ off. The pair that Steven got are like $75 shoes. We paid $20 a pair.

I need to balance my bank account tonight before we go to see Crystal Method tonight. I'm super tired because we stayed up way to late last night, again. I swear that it's the time change, because I know we weren't that tired around 130.

Well, off is the shower. Time to balance the bank account and get my act together.

I haven't been updating much recently mostly because there isn't a lot going on. It's mostly been work, work, work. I've also managed to catch a cold over "spring" break. I say spring in quotes because we just got nailed with two days worth of Nor'easter. May I present to you the St. Pat's Day storm of '04 in images:

First night of the storm

The first night of snowing, March 16th

First night of the storm

The unshoveled porch Steven walked out on, barefoot.

Steven's Cold Feet

Steven's cold, wet feet from running outside barefoot.

Plotting revenge

Plotting revenge for me telling him "I told you so" about wearing shoes.

Second night of the storm

What had fallen since we shoveled about 10 minutes before.

Second night of the storm

Watching it come down

Second night of the storm

Another snow against light shot.

Second night of the storm

The side of my house.

Second night of the storm

Second shot of the side of my house.

Second night of the storm

Icicles!

I could write more, but I need to head out to pick Steven up from work and I certainly don't need to get started on bitching about Massasoit more. Yay for suck schools.

It's goddamned cold outside. It supposed to get to something like -10, before the wind chill tonight, and I think -30 to -40 with the wind chill. I should be taking a nap right now, but I can't sleep at all. I was trying to take a nap before bowling, but my mother had to call, for no good reason, about 1/2 an hour into the nap and spoil things. My mother seems to forget about this neat invention called "email". It allows you to contact people without rudely dragging them out of their warm beds. Boo.

So, here I am eating oyster crackers and watching The Two Towers, killing time while Steven finishes up bowling. On a side note, Viggo Mortensen (for anyone one who lives under a rock, that would be Aragorn)looks far more attractive with longer, dark brown hair and a beard than he does without. I'd actually like to go and see Return of the King again, hopefully without having to pee wicked bad for the last hour and a half of it. Kind of spoiled the experience.

I'm actually also probably going to expend the extra cash when the extended trilogy comes out. I'd like to see all the extra jazz, but why pay for each one separately? I mean, I know there are a lot of people who will, but I haven't that kind of cash.

I should go and start up my car in the not to distant future. Bowling's usually over somewhere around 8:45 or 9. I so don't feel like cooking tonight, either.. I think I shall strongly suggest chinese. Yay for chinese on ass-biting cold nights.
devilgrrl: (Default)
The new popcorn popper works really well. I picked it up this afternoon and we've already tested it out. I wish that the butter melter worked a teeny bit better, but since that's the only issue I have, I'm not complaining. I'll probably eventually get the spray on butter, anyhow, since it coats better. I love air popped popcorn.

It's absolutely bitter cold and it's snowing outside, now, too. It's supposed to get to something like -10 tomorrow night. I am not pleased. I also am not thrilled about having to go to work tomorrow. I don't feel really great, so I'd really rather just sleep in.

Scrubbed my bathroom today. It was a hell of a lot of work, but it looks fantastic. I'm going to try to work on the kitchen Friday. I'm hoping to rearrange the living room next week-end.

I'm tired. I'm going to bed.
devilgrrl: (Default)
So. fucking. cold.

The window behind my computer is about as useful as tits on a bull. Actually, tits on a bull would be more useful, because at least the bull would be a curiosity and, therefore, worth money. The window is certainly not worth that much. I'm sitting here and I literally can see the breeze from the window blowing my dresses.

I hate my apartment.

I need to find a blanket or something to pin over the window to stop the cold from coming in. Particularly tonight and tomorrow, considering it's about 0 outside.

Ha, so what are we doing tonight? We're going to go out with friends for ice cream. I still need to do boring things like pick up toilet paper and paper towels, as well. This all makes me wonder when I became so domestic...

Anyhow, I just really wanted to complain about the artic frost coming in through my window. I've got coffee to make, a couple of things to find (like blankets), and an act to get together.

Oh, and check out HGTV. They're giving away a house.
devilgrrl: (Default)
So, upon closer inspection this morning, I not only have rugburn on my bum, but also a huge scratch on the right side, almost at my thigh. I have absolutely no idea where I got this from. It looks like a cat scratch, except that I don't have a cat.

Holy Jesus! it's cold outside. I just poked my nose out to check my mail (none) and it's absolutely frigid. I guess the high today is only supposed to be 9. I hate winter.

Anyhow, so I have no idea where I got this scratch from. I slathered it with neosporin, unknowingly, before I went to bed, so it doesn't hurt anymore. This is one of life's great mysteries, I guess.

I should be taking down my Christmas tree. I went above and beyond my good Catholic duties this year by leaving it up not only until Little Christmas (last Tuesday), but through today. I haven't actually done this because I meant to, but because I'm completely lazy.

~*~

Well, that was a long hiatus. It's now 2:22, I've taken down the Christmas tree mostly, talked to Dawn on the phone for an hour and a half, chatted with my nephew, as well, showered, and started the car to warm up so I can go and get Steven from work. Go me.

I am thinking of getting either these or these when I get new cheques. I'm completely torn between them. If you have an opinion, email me. I need opinions.

All right, must get ready to brave the horrendous cold.
